This cultural place introduce the painter Suzanne Valdon, born in Bessines-sur-Gartempe in 1865 and died in Paris in 1938. The visitors will discover le village of Bessines at the time of Marie-Clémentine (her baptismal name), daughter of a linen maid, who moved to Paris with her mother Madeleine in 1870.
In Montmartre, she met great painters such as Puvis de Chavanne, Renoir, Toulouse-Lautrec, Degas… She is named Maria as a model, then Suzanne as a painter. This place also mentions her son Maurice Utrillo, another well-known painter. The visit ends with the painter’s workshop, faithfully recreated as it was in Suzanne Valadon’s time.
