Museum of Mineralogy and Petrography
In an original museology, thousands of mineralogical and petrographic samples accompany you on a journey to the origins of our planet. This collection brings together fossils and rocks from 5 continents, of exceptional size and beauty!
Unique in France, this museum houses one of the most beautiful collections of rocks and minerals. A space was dedicated to Jean Ventenat, a former prospector, who donated his mineralogical collection to his native town. It represents more than 1,600 specimens including exceptional pieces from the Monts d’Ambazac, the old Chaillac mine and throughout Limousin.

Israëlis Bidermanas, who will become IZIS, was born in 1911 in Mariampol in the Russian Empire (today in Lithuania). In the dark hours of the Second World War, he took refuge in Ambazac and then became one of the main representatives of French humanist photography. Today, the city has dedicated a museum to his memory and his photos.
Get to know one of the major humanist photographers of the post-war period, visit his reconstituted personal laboratory, discover the work of the Paris Match reporter and the poet photographer friend of the artists.
Urêka
For more than 60 years, men and women worked day after day in often extreme conditions in the heart of the mines where the Urêka site is located today. For the first time, a museum pays tribute to these pioneers and their activity by retracing in a fun and educational way the history of the exploitation of this natural resource that is uranium ore, contained in the Limousin soil for millions of years.
This unique site will take you on a spectacular, interactive and entertaining journey deep into the ore. You can live the adventure of uranium, the one that led man to discover it, extract it, use it and understand it.

Valadon Space
It presents the painter Suzanne Valadon, born in Bessines-sur-Gartempe in 1865 and died in Paris in 1938. You will discover Bessines there at the time of Marie-Clémentine (her first name), daughter of a seamstress, Paris with his mother Madeleine in 1870.
In Montmartre, she met great painters such as Puvis de Chavanne, Renoir, Toulouse-Lautrec, Degas… She was first called Maria as a model then Suzanne as a painter. This place also evokes his son Maurice Utrillo, another great world-famous painter.
